Word is that Deron is mad close to a deal with Besiktas Cola Turka, a team of a low-tier Turkish league. If that name sounds at all familiar, besides the word “cola,” that’s because this is the team that signed (and then dropped) Allen Iverson last year. More information on the deal can be found from NetsDaily.
News like this sends a chill up the spines of those fearing a lockout, since it is essentially a billboard saying the 2011-12 NBA season is in great great jeopardy. It may mean the end of this upcoming NBA season, but it doesn’t mean the end of professional basketball for us fans.
With our stars migrating across the pond, I will be very tempted to find streams of these Turkish games online and start following the teams, at least for the duration of the lockout. We’d be watching some of the same players playing a differently-styled game, a nice change of pace for a while.
I recall reading an article in ESPN the Magazine by a mystery NBA Player X who said flat out that NBA coaches stink. They’re not great teachers and don’t facilitate player improvement. The coaches in Europe are singing a different tune. Many people cite Brandon Jennings as an example of the developmental benefits of playing internationally. Prior to going, he was a low draft prospect, assuming my memory serves me correctly.
After a season in Italy in which Jennings averaged less than 10 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists in under 20 minutes, he became one of the NBA’s biggest surprises and had a fantastic rookie campaign. So let’s send our guys over there, let them play for a little bit, let them get coached for a little bit, and let them play with guys named Sarunas, Bekir and Darjus for a little bit. // Like NBAmmkay on Facebook
CelebriDucks.com makes and sells rubber ducks based on musicians, cartoons and other celebrities while also taking custom orders. Over the years, a few NBA teams have gotten in on the action and immortalized their stars (and Cliff Robinson and Moochie Norris) as floating bath toys. Here’s what they came up with:
Allen Iverson // Ben Wallace // Charles Barkley
Cliff Robinson // Horace Grant // Kevin Garnett
Moochie Norris // Shane Battier // Shawn Marion
Steve Francis // Yao Ming
What makes the Steve Francis one funny is that he played for the Beijing Ducks in 2010. Being a rubber duck is a much bigger honor than being a Beijing duck, sadly.
If you’re a man already considering getting a g-string, you may as well make an effort to add credibility to it and get one of these NBA ones. The seller has them available in Knicks, Bobcats, Spurs, Nets, Celtics, Mavericks and Bulls, so have at it.
Basically, I found this giant, transparent-backgrounded picture of 7’4” former Jazz center Mark Eaton in a suit, and if you all would kindly oblige and place him in hilarious photo situations, that would be great. Make something good and submit it to me, thank you all kindly; here’s a direct link to the image. // Like NBAmmkay on Facebook
New blog feature: every now and then, I’ll scrape the bottom of the eBay barrel and give you the opportunity to bid on/buy something fairly interesting for fairly cheap. It’ll probably just be showing you shirts almost all the time.
Here we have a T-shirt, size Medium, that for reasons beyond my knowledge depicts Yao Ming and Shaq holding a World Series trophy. You can go Buy It Now for six bucks plus five for shipping and I can almost guarantee you’ll be the only inhabitant of this planet who owns a shirt like this. The auction ends in a few hours over a day from right now, so if you want it, you better hurry. The shirt is pre-owned, but the photos are of the actual shirt and it looks fine to me.
I’d get it myself if I wasn’t a poor college student with bills to pay. If one of you guys wins this, please tell me and take a picture with it when you get it. It’s a fantastic shirt and I want to see the joy it brings whoever wears it.
Not a question I'm afraid but just a huge probs about the Blake Griffin video. The editing is brilliant and the footage is just wicked. Any chance you'll be doing any more in the near future? Perhaps a PG?
Thanks for the support, man, I appreciate it. I don’t really plan on doing anymore 20+ minute videos like this, unfortunately. It really took a lot of effort for me to keep track of basically every single play that Blake had (given, I enjoyed them all because he’s what a like to call “human+”). I did it for Blake because I could tell he was going to have a special season and thought he deserved to have it completely chronicled, and I don’t think I have it in me to do it again.
One thing I had almost-but-not-really considered doing was do a new Blake video every year and release them all when he retires, so I’d have a collection of literally every highlight he’s ever had. That would be amazing, but also a lot of work over a long time and I think even I would get tired of it at about hour 6.
Anyway, sorry to let you down, but feel more than free to watch the Blake video as often as you want and to tell everybody you’ve ever met to watch it too. Haha, thanks for the comment.
The NBA will offer one of those cutesie thirty-or-whatever-dollar Mavericks championship DVDs, but the price is always a bit steep, especially for the casual fan who doesn’t pledge allegiance to the champion, but enjoyed the drama and intensity of a great NBA Finals.
